Strengthening Water and Irrigation Management Project

The development of Dangara city is currently impacted by the shallow depth of groundwater encountered in the city and its surrounding areas. Improve the efficiency of selected irrigation systems in the Vakhsh and Zeravshanation wells, show that current groundwater levels in large parts of the valley surrounding the city are less than 1.5 m below the surface, with numerous pockets having groundwater depths of less than 1.0 m. Historical observations suggest that this problem has only aggravated over the last decades.
For this assignment, the Сonsultant will assess the main causes of the high groundwater table in the Dangara valley and design remediation measures to lower groundwater levels in the most impacted areas.
Project Goals:
- Strengthen capacity in water resources planning and irrigation management in Tajikistan.
- Improve the efficiency of selected irrigation systems in the Vakhsh and Zeravshan river basin areas.
