Development of Geoparks in the Ak-Suu and Tyup Districts

27^th of April, 2023 in the city of Karakol, Issyk-Kul region, as part of the implementation of the project “Third Phase of the Central Asia Regional Links Program (CARs-3)”, it is planned to develop a strategy and Master Plan for sustainable tourism development, as well as two local plans for sustainable tourism development for Ak-Suu and Tyup districts of Issyk-Kul oblast (development of geoparks concept), including strategic environmental and social assessment”.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic - A. Dosaliev, First Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in Issyk-Kul region - U. Daliev, Chief Specialist of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic - D. Daiyrbekov, Acting Head of the PIU of the World Bank of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic - U. Zainalov and Head of the international consulting company THR Asseores en Tourismo, Noteleria Recreaction - Dr. Javier Gonzalez held a discussion on the economic importance of the project for the region, its advantages in the sustainable development of tourism, as well as held a question and answer session with citizens of other districts.

Mr. Patrick McKeever, an international expert on geoparks, provided detailed information on the management concept and model of international experience in developing a potential geopark in Ak-Suu and Tyup districts, as well as local social and environmental experts on the impact of tourism on the socio-ecological environment of Issyk-Kul region.
