Tyup–Kegen: Successful Completion of Reconstruction
The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, officially opened the reconstructed section of the Tyup–Kegen highway on September 29.
This project is part of the "Central Asia Regional Ways Communications Improvement Program Phase 3" (CARs-3). The main donor of the project is the World Bank (WB), and the client is the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic (MoTC KR).
United Group acts as a sub-consultant, providing consulting services for the technical supervision of construction works. The company's work covered the Tyup–Kegen road section (from km 39 to km 76) and included the following tasks:
• Technical supervision of construction works, including the laying of new pavement and the modernization of engineering structures.
• Monitoring compliance of all work with international standards and environmental regulations.
• Participation in developing solutions for improving road safety, including the installation of signs and the creation of pedestrian crossings.
Significance of the Road for the Region The Tyup–Kegen highway, with a length of 52 km, is strategically important as it directly connects the Issyk-Kul Oblast with the Almaty Oblast and Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan.
The road's reconstruction has a significant impact on the region's development:
• Economy: The project aims to reduce transport costs and travel time. It facilitates access to agricultural markets in Kazakhstan for Issyk-Kul farmers, creating new economic opportunities.
• Tourism: The road improvement reduces travel time for tourists from neighboring countries, stimulating the development of the hotel business and related services. Five tourist service centers were built along the route.
• Social Impact: The construction of high-quality roads contributes to the growth of trade and the revitalization of communication between communities. Crucially, the modernization of the road opens up new opportunities for entrepreneurship and directly leads to the improvement of the local population's quality of life.
