From February 24 to 27, 2025, a four-day training program was held in the city of Bazar-Korgon. This event marked an important step toward enhancing the qualifications and competencies of specialists from the District Water Resources and Irrigation Departments (WRSI), Water User Associations (WUAs), and farmer water users.
The training was organized by SU-YAPI Engineering & Consulting Inc. and United Group Teknik Danışmanlık Ltd., with the support of the Project Implementation Unit of the Climate-Resilient Water Services Project (CRWSP). The activity was implemented under the project “Improvement of Water Services Resilient to Climate Change”, financed by the World Bank. The main goal of the training was to strengthen the capacity of WRSI staff and directors of WUAs receiving water from the inter-farm canal “Left Branch.”
Organization and Participants
The training program, the thematic content of which was agreed upon with the PIU of CRWSP, gathered over 30 participants, including staff from the Bazar-Korgon District Water Resources and Irrigation Department (WRSI) and directors of WUAs. Trainers were experts from the Training, Consulting and Innovation Center (TCIC).
Purpose and Program of the Training
The primary objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of participants in irrigation water management, irrigation network operation, and agronomy.
Participants gained new knowledge through interactive sessions that contributed to:
• A deeper understanding of water resources management;
• Learning effective irrigation methods;
• Familiarization with climate change adaptation measures.
The training made a significant contribution to improving the participants’ professional knowledge and skills, providing them with practical experience necessary for effective work in the water management sector.
Results and Recommendations
At the end of the training, participants highlighted the importance of the knowledge gained and its practical applicability in their daily work. It is recommended to continue organizing similar capacity-building programs aimed at strengthening the potential of WRSI and WUA staff, as well as farmers, to further support the sustainable development of the water resources sector in the Kyrgyz Republic.
